Hanwha Power Systems signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Hanwha Power Systems R&D Center in Pangyo on November 30th (Thursday). The purpose is to enhance the competitiveness of the national power market and broaden the development of domestic and international markets through collaboration with Korea Western Power and eco-friendly power generation projects.

This agreement was signed to strengthen cooperation between the two companies, encompassing △ collaboration in eco-friendly power generation projects △ technology development and commercialization for converting gas turbine non-carbon power generation △ mutual cooperation for innovating gas turbine non-carbon power generation technology for domestic and international applications. Carbon-free power generation refers to the production of electricity through energy sources that do not directly emit carbon during the generation process.

Technological cooperation between the two companies is expected to serve as a driving force in creating a domestic carbon-free power generation eco-system and achieving carbon neutrality. Aligned with the global trend towards carbon neutrality, there is a growing demand for clean fuel conversion power generation to meet the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants. This demand is particularly evident in regions like Pyeongtaek, where the country's major industries are concentrated. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to establish a power supply chain based on carbon-free sources to enhance the competitiveness of high-tech industries such as semiconductors.

Meanwhile, Hanwha Power Systems and Korea Western Power achieved a significant milestone in April this year by successfully demonstrating the world's first hydrogen mixing ratio of 60% by utilizing 80MW medium and large-sized gas turbines. Subsequently, efforts have been underway to apply this hydrogen mixing technology to the 150MW West Incheon complex power plant.

"We are delighted to announce another agreement in the eco-friendly power generation business, following the successful collaboration between Western Power and hydrogen mixture," stated a Hanwha Power Systems official. "We are confident that the carbon-free gas turbine power generation solution will consistently provide eco-friendly power, meeting the needs of companies in industrial complexes like Pyeongtaek and Yongin, which aspire to achieve carbon neutrality. We plan to continue various collaborations with Western Power for a sustainable future."
